7 Days To Die 1.0 Update Launches With Discount For Existing Console Owners

Zombie survival game 7 Days to Die is officially out of early access after 12 years of development with its 1.0 update, a milestone that comes with a new price tag and new, current-generation console versions that will require owners of the game’s old, last-generation console version to re-buy the game once more.

Developer The Fun Pimps, however, is offering a 25% discount off the new $45 console edition for those who purchased the last-gen version. Those looking to buy on PlayStation 5 and already digitally own the old PS4 version, the discount should automatically be applied. Those on Xbox Series X|S who previously bought the Xbox One version will need to make sure the discount is active, as it is unclear when Microsoft will make the discount live, according to The Fun Pimps.

The old console version has been delisted from storefronts, though owners will still be able to download and play it should they choose, The Fun Pimps said. That version of the game released in 2016 and received different updates than its PC counterpart, something that won’t be the case for the new console versions.

“This milestone release heralds a groundbreaking evolution in the survival horror genre, packed with a wealth of new content, innovative new features, polish, transformative quality-of-life improvements, optimizations, and revolutionary gameplay systems,” The Fun Pimps writes in a post on Steam.

7 Days to Die’s 1.0 update technically arrived on Steam last month in “experimental form,” but today’s launch makes the update official alongside the release of the new console versions. The update introduced changes to the game’s clothing and and armor system, a new HD character system, updates to models for zombies, vehicles, and animals, and major progression changes.

It may have left early access, but 7 Days to Die will still receive major new content in the months ahead. The developer recently outlined its 2024-2025 content roadmap for 7 Days to Die, with the game’s Storm’s Brewing update set to introduce an overhaul to the survival game’s weather systems as well as its wardrobe system towards the end of this year. In Q2 of 2025, the game’s A New Threat update will introduce bandits as well as overhaul the game’s UI, with an update slated for late 2025 set to introduce a story mode, Steam Workshop support, and changes to the game’s Traders.
